Check the device you have, not just its name

Find the full model identifier in your phone’s settings. Compare it with the manufacturer’s regional support information. Two phones sold under the same family name can have different SIM capabilities.

Keep hardware compatibility separate from plan coverage: a phone may support eSIM while your selected package does not cover your destination.

An unlocked phone gives you the relevant choice

Carrier restrictions can prevent using another network’s plan. On iPhone, check the carrier-lock information under General → About. For other devices, confirm the restriction with the original carrier. A device check in an app cannot remove a carrier lock.

Decide which lines need to remain active

Make a simple list: home number for calls or messages; travel eSIM for mobile data; any other active SIM. Then confirm the exact combination your device supports. Storing several eSIMs does not mean they can all be active together.

DualLine’s virtual second line and a carrier SIM are different products. A second-line subscription does not make a phone eSIM-compatible or add a mobile data allowance.

Your take-away checklist

  • Record exact model and sales region.
  • Confirm eSIM support with the manufacturer.
  • Check any carrier lock.
  • Confirm your desired active-SIM combination.
  • Read the selected package’s destination coverage.
